Please see below a list of Sheffield services you can self-refer to, without needing to see a GP.

Minor Conditions:

Local Pharmacy – Your pharmacy can help with many minor conditions.

  • They can offer treatments for tonsillitis, uncomplicated UTIs in women, sinusitis, ear ache, shingles, impetigo and infected insect bites. Some pharmacies can also offer contraceptive pill checks and advice, free emergency contraception, BP checks, flu and covid vaccinations and more.

Sexual Health and Contraception:

Sexual Health Sheffield – For services for coils, implants, Depo injections and more.

MSI Reproductive Choices – MSI Reproductive Choice can provide early medical abortion, surgical abortion, STI screening, contraception & counselling across South Yorkshire.

Royal Hallamshire Hospital Termination of Pregnancy – You can self-refer to the Termination of Pregnancy Service.

  • This is done through G1 Reception by telephone on 0114 226 8225 and selecting Option 1.
  • This service is confidential but if you are under 16 you will need to bring an adult (someone over 18) who you trust when you go for your appointment.

Emergency Contraception – You can get free emergency contraception from certain pharmacies in Sheffield.

Move Well – Many people with health conditions find that being active helps them manage their condition and symptoms, as well as improving their general well-being.

Longley 4 Greens Fitness 4 All – Fitness Classes are Monday – Friday

  • What’s On | Longley 4G – All classes require you to sign up, donations are welcome (minimum of £1) but if you can’t pay you won’t be turned away.

Smoking Cessation – The Sheffield Smokefree service offers free advice and support for anyone wanting to quit smoking.

Social:

Looking for care or a care home – CHS Healthcare offer a free, independent and confidential service to help find the right home care package or care home for patients and their families.

NHS Care Volunteer Responders: They offer 2 free services you can self-refer to.

1. Check In and Chat Calls – Volunteers are available to provide a friendly phone call and a listening ear.

2. Companionship Calls – The same volunteer is available to provide regular friendly phone calls and a listening ear for up to 3 times a week for up to 6 weeks.

Family Intervention Service – A Council-run “Early Help” service providing advice and support for families with a wide range of needs.

Help learning English – SAVTE offer a range of free English learning opportunities. They offer in-person conversation groups, online conversation groups and 1:1 teaching for people who cannot go to a class due to health reasons or caring responsibilities. 

SOAR – SOAR is a charity aiming to provide a service to improve a person’s health, wellbeing and employability.

IDAS – Offer support for domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Mental Health:

Sheffield Talking Therapies – They provide a range of short-term talking therapies that are available to help anyone (aged 18 or over who lives or works in Sheffield) experiencing stress, anxiety and depression.

Door 43 – They offer support to 13-25 year olds on a range of emotional wellbeing issues. They offer several services including: a drop in, one to one support, wellbeing cafes and social prescribing spaces.

Kooth – This is an online mental wellbeing community for children and young people aged 11-25.  They provide accessible and safe spaces with a range of therapeutic support and interventions.

Gold Digger Trust – This is a charity for 11-19 year old’s offering mental health support.

Op Courage – The Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service provides specialist care and support for those due to leave the armed forces, reservists and those who’ve already left.

SYEDA – South Yorkshire Eating Disorder Association. This service is for ages 14 and over.

The Corner – They offer support for drug use.

Likewise – They offer drug and alcohol support.

Employment:

SOHAS – Sheffield Occupational Health Advisory Service support people who’s health is affecting their work or vice versa.

Working Win – This is a free service, which aims to support you if you have a physical and/or mental health condition and would like to find meaningful employment or stay in your current role.

WorkWell – WorkWell supports people aged 16+ living with a health condition or disability to find and stay in work.
